The federal government has designated 9-1-1 as the single emergency number in the United States to call for police, fire, emergency medical or rescue services. AT&T works with public safety agencies across the country to provide reliable 9-1-1 service for our customers. In many parts of our network when you call 9-1-1, the emergency operator is provided with the location of the tower handling your call and your mobile number.
Also, a growing number of local agencies can determine your approximate location during an emergency call. However, these “enhanced” 9-1-1 capabilities are not available everywhere. Always be prepared to provide as much information about the location of the emergency as possible.
